I got the opportunity to meet this beauty in Atlanta at the Werk, Pray, Slay conference in 2016. We were intrigued with each other’s books, and I have had the opportunity to follow her on social media and wanted to share her Glow with you. I hope that you glean from her process as are inspired to becoming all God desires.
Question: How are you are currently using your Gifts to serve others or how do you desire to use your gifts to serve others in the future? Describe what you are passionate about right now.
Shonda:
Right now, I’m passionate about 3 things: real-life experiences, empowerment and
encouragement. I’m using my experiences to empower and encourage women when it comes to life and love. So, even if it was a difficult or bad situation that I went through, I like finding a way to turn that into a lesson or something that could potentially help someone else. I feel like most times we think we’re alone or the only ones going through certain situations, but we’re not. It’s so comforting to know there are other women who have gone through or are going through some of the same things. Besides, most times the things we have to deal with aren’t just for our benefit or to learn about ourselves; rather it’s to give glory to God and to help someone else.
I remember when I took the “spiritual assessment” at my church and one of my gifts that was revealed to me was counseling and leadership. I’ve always felt like I was a natural born leader, but more importantly I’ve always had a passion for helping others through my own experiences in terms of providing “counseling” or even a listening ear.
That’s why I don’t mind being transparent and sharing my experiences, because I know it can help someone else whether she’s single, in a relationship, or married. The more we’re honest with people, the less people will aspire to have a perfect life or compare their lives to others. I love when I hear ladies tell me, “Wow, it’s like you knew my life without even knowing me.” That, along with the fact that my passion is inspiring ladies to grow closer to God, for me, makes it all worth it.

Question: What helps you to LIVE your best life NOW on the way to where you are going? Describe what it means to be the Light of the world as a young adult woman?
Shonda:
To be the light of the world, to me, means that I’m not ashamed to shine my light for Christ not just in what I say, but in what I do. Character. It’s being able to relate to all types of people no matter their background and no matter where they may be on this spiritual journey. I live my best life knowing that tomorrow is not promised and each day I’m grateful for another chance to breath and say “Thank you, Lord.” Living my best life is being the best wife I can be to my husband and showing others examples of true love, because at the end of the day God is love.Living my best life is not being afraid. Being fearless and choosing to feed my faith, not my fear.

Question: In your process of Becoming all that God desires, what are some obstacles that you have had to overcome, and what are some things that you are still over coming?
Shonda:
In the past, I definitely had to overcome relationship obstacles – with the absence of my dad and my self-love issues, as well as my interpersonal relationships. I’ve been betrayed by my friends (ultimate betrayal); I’ve been lied to, cheated on repeatedly…all of which in some way contributed to my depression and self-doubt.
Today, I find myself dealing with obstacles as it relates to self-confidence and remembering that I have the power of God and that I am enough. Overcoming fear and ignoring that little voice inside of me telling me that my dreams are too big or something isn’t possible…it’s an obstacle I struggle with every single day. Some days are better than others where I push right past the fear, but there are days when I have to remind myself that “God has not given us the spirit of fear, but of power, love and a sound mind.” Not to mention, I have to remind myself to TRUST GOD even when things aren’t going as fast or how I’d like them to.
Question: What’s one of your favorite words and why? And speaking of favorite word, what WORD or verse in the bible speaks loudest to you in this season?
FEARLESS – I love this word because if you break it up it’s an action statement (Fear less), and even as one word it’s so powerful and it describes someone who although they may still fear things, they still have a fearless attitude. This person feeds their faith more than their fear. There are so many verses, but in addition to the ones listed above (“God has not given…” and “Trust in the Lord with all thine heart and lean not on your understanding…), I also love “And we know all things work together for the good of them who love the Lord, and are called according to His purpose.” This means, God is working it out for you no matter what and even if it’s a bad experience God can still work it out for the overall good. For me, that means you can have an ugly past but still have a beautiful future. Anything is possible with God. “I can do all things
through Christ who strengthens me.” I could go on and on. LOL!
Thanks for sharing your process and may your example move others to love and serve God, and that you continue shine the father’s Glow.
